  6. Description – The fruit of carambola or Chinese tamarind tree, a tree or bush of the botanical family Oxalidaceae, grows to 2 m. The aggregate fruit is thin-skinned and golden-yellow, measuring 6 to 12 cm long.
  7. Environment – Originally from Indonesia and Malaysia, they are cultivated in other Asian and American tropical countries. The primary producing countries are Thailand, Brazil, and Colombia.

The carambola contains 5.13 percent carbohydrates in the form of sugars and small proportions of proteins (0.54 percent) and fats (0.34 percent), which supply 33 calories per 100 grams (33 kcal/100 grams). It also contains a moderate amount of provitamin A (40 ug RE/100 grams), B complex vitamins, and vitamins E and C, the latter being the most abundant (21.2 mg/100 grams).
